KANE'OHE, Hawaii--The Gonzaga University women's golf team completed play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Wednesday, playing the third round of the tournament at Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
For the first time this year, Dania Uy led the way for the Zags, finishing in a tie for 18th at 222 (+6). It's her best finish of the year and second career Top 20 showing. The sophomore from Antipolo, Philippines shot 74 (+2) during Wednesday's final round, offsetting four bogeys with two birdies and 12 pars. With the strong tournament, she cut her stroke average on the year by 85 points to 77.94.
Two more Bulldogs turned in Top 25 finishes as Bianca Pagdanganan and Ciera Min each tied for 24th at 224 (+8). Pagdanganan turned in the team's lowest final round, shooting 1-under-par 71. The freshman posted 15 pars and two birdies on the day, with the two birdies coming on her first and final holes of the round. She totaled 40 holes played at par for the tournament, tied for second-most in the field. Min, meanwhile, shot 77 (+5) Wednesday, playing Kane'ohei Klipper's front nine at even-par 36 and the back at 5-over 41. Like Uy, Min counted seven birdies over the three rounds.
Next up for Gonzaga, Jena Gao finished in a tie for 66th with a collective total of 238, 22 strokes above par. She shot 79 (+7) during the final round, making 12 pars along the way.
Rounding out the Bulldog lineup, Raychelle Santos finished tied for 85th with 248 strokes (+32). She counted 88 (+16) of them during the final round.
"Dania had a great tournament," said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel. "She was the most focused and most determined. Bianca had a good round that could have been great, but we just couldn't get those puts to fall. Overall, our energy and passion was much better today."
As a team, the Zags shot their best score of the tournament Wednesday, counting 301 strokes (+13). In all, they counted 906 strokes on the weekend, 42 shots above par. No. 10 Oklahoma State won the tournament due to a tiebreak as the Cowgirls and Texas A&M were tied at 4-under-par 860. The Aggies' Thanya Pattamakijsak took medalist honors at 8-under-par 208.
The Zags have one more regular season tournament before beginning postseason play, the Silverado Showdown, held on Silverado North Course in Napa, Calif. That tournament, co-hosted by Oregon and Colorado, will take place April 3-5 with one round occurring each day.
