
Trio of Zags Named All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. -- Gonzaga men's golfers, Ryan Gaske, Angus Montgomery and Sean Walsh, were named Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars Wednesday.
Walsh received the honor for the second straight year. A total of 212 men's golfers across NCAA Div. I received the honor.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Walsh finished his GU career in a tie for 17th at even par with a 216 total at the NCAA Championships Tucson Regional. He was the second golfer in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Walsh had the best season in program history in 2015-16. His 71.55 season average is the lowest in program history by nearly two strokes. The lone senior on last season's roster also owns the lowest career average in program history at 73.14.
Walsh was the first golfer in GU history to be named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. He finished in the top-20 in each of the 12 events he played in last season. Walsh, a Business Administration major, was named to the WCC All-Academic Team for the second time in his career.
Gaske was also named Academic All-WCC. He appeared in nine events and played 27 rounds. His season average of 75.48 was the second-lowest on the team. His relative to par was four-over. He had two top-20 finishes. Gaske tied for 17th at the WCC Championships. The Sport Management major boasts a 3.75 GPA.
Montgomery appeared in 10 events for GU in 2015-16. He posted a 75.87 season average with a relative to par at four-over. He carded his lowest round of 71 in the final round of the Husky Invitational. Montgomery has a 3.44 GPA as a Business major.
