Mildes Named Academic All-District

SPOKANE, Wash. -- For the second straight year, Gonzaga's Jessica Mildes was named to the Academic All-District 8 team in Division I women's track and field and cross country, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Mildes boasts a 4.00 cumulative grade point average. She graduated with a major in accounting, and is working on her Master of Taxation. She will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting. The redshirt senior was tabbed third team Academic All-American last year.
In the classroom, Mildes has excelled in her two seasons at Gonzaga. She received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, along with Academic All-WCC. The Chattaroy, Wash. native is one of four student-athletes on the District 8 team with a 4.00 GPA.
In cross country, Mildes is second on the GU all-time list over a 6,000-meter course and third over a 5,000-meter course. In track, she is the program record-holder in the 5,000 (16:16.88) and 10,000 meters (33:40.82).
Mildes returns to the NCAA West Preliminary this season after running in the 2015 regionals. She got tripped up early in the 10,000-meter race and placed 39th at 36:54.57. Anxious for another chance, she returns to the same track as a senior.
Mildes enters this year's West Prelims with the 30th-fastest time in the region at 34:13.96. She ran that qualifying time at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13. Her time is seeded 27th in the 48-runner field.
