Series Notes: Gonzaga and Rutgers meet for only the second time in program history. Gonzaga holds the edge in the series as the Bulldogs won the first meeting 86-73 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in Spokane, Wash. 11th-seeded Gonzaga jumped on No. 6 Rutgers early and led 20-4 after 10 minutes in front of a boisterous Spokane crowd. The Zags were 9-of-19 from long range to keep the Scarlet Knights at pay in the second half. Kayla Standish finished with 23 points while Haiden Palmer added 21 for Gonzaga.
- That year, the Zags went on to defeat Miami (FL) 65-54 in the Second Round to advance to the Sweet 16 for the third-straight season.
- Gonzaga carries a 5-11 all-time record against current Big Ten teams. The Bulldogs are 0-3 against the Big Ten under Lisa Fortier.
 
SCOUTING RUTGERS:
- Rutgers is 4-1 on the year after falling 69-59 to (RV) Drake in the quarterfinals of the inaugural Vancouver Showcase. Stasha Carey led the Scarlet Knights with 20 points of 7-of-9 shooting including 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. No other player reached double figures. Carey also claimed a share of the lead in rebounds, tallying seven along with teammate Caitlin Jenkins.
- Head Coach Vivian Stringer became just the sixth women's head coach in NCAA history to eclipse 1,000 wins with a 73-44 win over Central Connecticut State on Nov. 13. She carries a 1,001-403 all-time career record.
- As a squad, the Scarlet Knights have been battling injuries all preseason, and Stringer noted how several players are playing out of position to start the season.
- The Scarlet Knights average 70.8 points per game shooting 45.4 percent from the floor. Through five games, Rutgers averages 47.8 rebounds per game with a +19.4 rebounding margin. Heading into this week, Rutgers averaged a +24.0 rebounding margin, good for third in the nation.
- The Scarlet Knights also rank among the best in the nation in blocked shots, averaging 7.6 per contest which currently ranks seventh.
- Three players average double figures for Rutgers, led by Carey with 11.0 points per game. Arella Guirantes and Ciani Cryor also average double figures (though Cryor is currently out for 10 games serving a suspension due to violation of team rules) at 10.2 and 10.0, respectively.
- Jenkins leads the Scarlet Knights in rebounding at 10.2 per contest while Carey adds 6.4.
 
MELODY THE MACHINE
Melody Kempton has been the team workhorse inside the key. The freshman has tallied 25 boards on the season for an even 5.0 per game, and she's been a defensive force on the inside. She leads the Bulldogs with seven blocks in the season; three of those came against Notre Dame.
 
STOCKTON DISHING IT OUT
- Laura Stockton currently ranks tied for 36th in the nation with 24 total assists on the season. She's recorded at least five assists in three games so far this season and dished out seven assists two consecutive games: at UNLV and vs. Notre Dame.
- Stockton continues to move up the all-time career assists list. Following GU's 81-65 loss to No. 1 Notre Dame, Stockton ranks sixth all-time with 356 career assists.
