GU cruised to the doubles point with victories on Nos. 1 and 2. On No. 1, the nation's 29th-ranked combo of Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas picked up their sixth consecutive victory and moved to 8-1 on the year with a 6-1 win. On No. 2, the GU pair of Nevada Apollo and Ashleigh Jacobs stayed unbeaten in that spot in the lineup with a 6-3 win to clinch the point.
"On days that we aren't playing out best, we tend to lean on our training and trust the process," assistant coach Natalie Pluskota said. "EWU played a tough match today, and we had to rely on our fitness and battle through the match. It was a good day, and a good weekend."
Senior Alex Bourguignon picked up the first GU singles win of the day, dropping just three games in her two sets on the way to a 6-1, 6-2 win. Haruna Tsuruta followed that with a win of her own as the Zags claimed control on the singles courts. On No. 5, Tsuruta won 6-3, 6-2 to improve to 4-2 in dual match play.
Dominique Garley then clinched the match for the Zags on No. 4, 7-6(4), 6-2, for her 11th consecutive singles victory on the year.
GU added singles victories on all three remaining courts as well to complete the sweep. In order, Apollo won 7-5, 6-4, on No. 3, Whittle won 7-2, 6-7(6), 1-0(2) on No. 1 and Rosas came back from down as set to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Zags will open West Coast Conference action their next time out right at home on the Stevens Center courts against BYU. That match will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. Live video and stats will be available on the women's tennis schedule page at GoZags.com.
