PINEHURST, N.C. - The Gonzaga Bulldogs moved up a spot to third on Friday at the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate at Pinehurst #8, shooting a 313 to finish +114, just five strokes out of second.
Jessica Mangrobang finished in a tie for third, her best career finish at +24. She went two-under on the front with birdies on one and three, and had two more birdies on the back to shoot a 74 in difficult conditions. Francesca Santoni finished tied for 13th with a final round 81, rolling home a birdie on each side to finish +31.
Nina Novilla finished in 13th as well, shooting an 82 with a birdie on 18 on Friday. Diana Araneta was just three spots back with a final round 76, matching her season-low round, with two birdies as well, going +2 on each side to wind up at +32.
"The weather better today, still blowing, but more playable" Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel said. "Our team played hard. Jessica was three-under through 13 and finishing third is great. Diana hit the ball the best I have seen her hit it. It was nice to move up on the final day."
Ragga Kristinsdottir of Eastern Kentucky was the individual champion at +14 and EKU won at +81. The Zags led the field on the week with 16 birdies and Mangrobang was second with five. Santoni was second in the field going +2 on the par-five holes. It was also the best career finish for Santoni, Novilla, and Araneta.
The Zags quickly return to action on Sunday and Monday playing Eastern Washington in the Bulldog-Eagle Challenge at Liberty Lake Golf Course.
