Thurston Named Academic All-District

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Gonzaga's Jordan Thurston was tabbed to the 2017-18 District Eight Google Cloud Academic All-DistrictÂ® Women's Track/Cross Country Team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Tuesday.

The team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-DistrictÂ® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-AmericaÂ® ballot, with Google Cloud Academic All-AmericaÂ® teams announced in June.

Thurston is a two-time All-West Coast Conference First Team honoree in cross country and has her name scattered on the program's top-10 track records. Her fourth-place finish at the 2016 WCC Championships was the 12th-ever Top-Five finish in program history at the event.

She ran the fastest time in GU history over a 4,000-meter course at 2016 Clash of the Inland Northwest (13:40.6). Thurston also ranks fifth on a 5,000-meter course (17:06) and a 6,000-meter course (20:30.5). Her seventh-place finish at the 2015 conference championships helped clinch the team title. The Tacoma, Wash. native has nine Top-10 finishes in cross country, including three first-place finishes.

On the track, she ranks third in program history in the 10,000 meters (34:48.51), fifth in the 5,000 meters (16:34.81) and fourth in the indoor 5,000 (17:12.86). Thurston boasts a 3.95 cumulative GPA and is a multiple Academic All-Conference selection.

Former Zag, Jessica Mildes was named Academic All-District 8 in 2015-16 and 2016-17. She was then selected third team Academic All-American in 2015-16 and first team Academic All-American in 2016-17.

The Google Cloud Academic All-DistrictÂ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The Google Cloud Academic All-AmericaÂ® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions -- NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
