Quynn Duong took medalist honors by four shots, Zags team honors by 13 shots
TACOMA, Wash. – Gonzaga women's golf sophomore Quynn Duong blew the field away in taking home medalist honors, and her teammates followed suit to help GU capture the team title by 13 shots at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Wash., Tuesday.
Playing the Par-72 Tacoma Golf and Country Club, Duong fired a final-round 71 (-1) to win the tournament by four strokes at -7 overall. Both Duong's 209 (-7) total and the team's 860 (-4) total marked new 54-hole program records. The win is also GU's second in a row after taking the team title at the Coeur d'Alene Resort Collegiate Invitational two weeks ago.
"It was really fun getting to see Quynn [Duong] win. She's been so close already so many times, and it's great to see her get over the hump and close one out," head coach Brad Rickel said. "Quynn played great golf from beginning to end, and I have no doubt she was the best player here this week. Overall, I'm so proud of our entire team effort. Everyone contributes, everyone works hard, and everyone just keeps marching forward. Its a young, energetic group with a great senior leader, and now they've held the lead for six straight rounds of two tournaments and been able to close out the wins both times."
Alongside Duong, GU had two more top-10s in the field with senior Jessica Mangrobang placing in a tie for fifth at +1 for the tournament after a final-round 75 (+3) and Cassie Kim coming in 10th with a three-over 75 to finish three-over for the tournament.
To round out the Zags lineup on the day, Federica Torre posted a second consecutive round of even or better with an even-par 72 to place 26th overall, and Alyssa Nguyen shot a final-round 74 (+2) to finish tied for 20th overall.
Gonzaga led the field in Par-3, Par-4 and Par-5 scoring, which included a nine-under mark on the Par-5s.
The Zags will wrap up their fall season this weekend in Florida at the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Check GoZags.com for links to live scoring.
