Mwaura Breaks Program 8K Record in Indiana

Zag sophomore placed eighth at 23:30.8
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Gonzaga men's cross country runner James Mwaura broke the program's 8,000-meter course record at the Joe Piane Invitational Friday. The sophomore placed eighth with a record time of 23:30.80.
Mwaura led the Zag men to a 14th place finish as a team at the elite event, that featured some the nation's best programs. Mwaura broke Willie Milam's previous record of 23:32 set in 2013.
Peter Hogan climbed from eighth to seventh on GU's all-time list with his 24:07.26 finish. The junior placed 37th, besting his previous personal record of 24:11.
Cullen McEachern ran the 17th-fastest time in program history at 24:26.72. He crossed the line in 71st. Phillip Fishburn was 86th with a time of 24:37.97, while Jake Perrin's time of 24:49.76 was 105th.
Alabama had the top two individual finishers in the men's Blue Division Race. Vincent Kiprop's time of 23:09.88 edged out his teammate, Gilbert Kigen (23:13.70).
Colorado took the team title with 61 points. Ole Miss was second place with 97 points.
The Gonzaga men and women will have runners in the annual Inland Empire Classic in Lewiston, Idaho, on Oct. 12.
