GU earned the doubles point, but won just one singles match
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Gonzaga women's tennis dropped a 4-2 decision on the road at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon.
The Zags (6-6) took the doubles point to start the day, but the momentum quickly switched with singles play as the Gauchos won the first set on four of the six courts.
In doubles, GU took a pair of victories on Nos. 1 and 2. The No. 25 duo of Sophie Whittle and Graciela Rosas earned the win on No. 1, 6-2, while Vlada Medvedcova and Sara Komer won 7-5 to clinch the point on No. 2.
In singles, No. 7-ranked Whittle earned a straight set win on No. 1, 6-3, 6-1, to put GU up 2-0 in the team race, but UCSB came back to win the next four matches to finsh.
Gonzaga will be on the road in its next two matches and back in WCC play. GU travels to BYU on March 22 to face the Cougars at 11 a.m.
