Gonzaga and Texas Tech Meet for Final Four Berth

Zags and Red Raiders square off in the Elite Eight Saturday

THE TIP-OFF:
- Gonzaga and Texas Tech meet for the third time on Saturday in the 2019 NCAA Tournament West Regional Finals in Anaheim, Calif., at 3:09 p.m. The Red Raiders have won both of the previous meetings.
- GU is making its 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament Appearance and 22nd overall. The 21 straight berths to the field is the fourth-longest current streak in the nation (Kansas, Duke, Michigan State).
- The Zags are 34-21 all-time in 21 previous NCAA Tournament appearances with 10 trips to the Sweet 16, four trips to the Elite Eight, one Final Four and an appearance in one national championship game.
- GU has advanced to three Elite Eights in the past five years.
- Gonzaga is the only program in the country that has appeared in five straight Sweet 16s.
- GU is 31-19 in the NCAA Tournament under head coach Mark Few with a berth in all 20 seasons of Few's head coaching career.
- The Bulldogs received a one-seed for the third time in program history.
- The Zags are first in the nation in field goal percentage (52.8), scoring margin (23.6), scoring offense (88.2), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.76).
- Gonzaga advanced to the West Regional Finals with a 72-58 win over fourth-seeded Florida State Thursday. Four Zags finished in double-digit scoring led by Rui Hachimura's 17 points. Brandon Clarke added 15 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks.
 
SERIES NOTES:
- This is the third meeting between Gonzaga and Texas Tech.
- The Red Raiders have won both previous meetings.
- The latest meeting between the programs was in the 2007 Great Alaska Shootout semifinals in Anchorage, Alaska, 73-63, on Nov. 23, 2007.
- Texas Tech won the first meeting in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament in Tucson, Ariz., 71-69. The Red Raiders were the sixth-seed and GU was the three-seed.
- The Bulldogs are 20-8 against current Big 12 members.
- Gonzaga beat Baylor, 83-71, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last week in Salt Lake City in the latest matchup with a Big 12 opponent.
 
SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS:   
- Third-seeded Texas Tech cruised to a 63-44 win over second-seeded Michigan in the Sweet 16 Thursday.
- Jarrett Culver led TTU with 22 points, while Davide Moretti and Matt Mooney added 15 and 10 points. Tariq Owens grabbed 10 boards for the Red Raiders.
- Texas Tech held Michigan to 32 percent shooting from the field, including 1-of-19 from three-point range.
- The Red Raiders are holding opponents to 36.8 percent shooting from the field, which ranks second in the nation. TTU is also limiting its foes to 59.2 points per game, which is third in the country.
- Three Red Raiders are averaging double-digit scoring led by Culver's 18.9 points per game. Moretti and Mooney add 11.6 and 10.9 points per outing. Culver grabs a team-high 6.4 rebounds per game, and has thrown a team-best 133 assists.
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT NOTES

- The Bulldogs received a one-seed for the third time in program history. Gonzaga was in Salt Lake City in each of those three occasions.
- GU has played more NCAA Tournament games in Salt Lake City than any other site, winning eight of the 11 games played there.
- The Zags began their Final Four run in Salt Lake City in 2017, beating South Dakota State in the first round and Northwestern in the second round. Gonzaga fell to Wichita State in the second round in 2013 in Salt Lake City, after defeating Southern in the first round.
- Last season, [4] GU defeated [13] UNC-Greensboro and [5] Ohio State in Boise, Idaho, advancing to the Sweet 16 where it fell to [11] Florida State.
 
ELITE FEAT:
- Gonzaga makes its fourth appearance in the Elite Eight.
- The Zags have appeared in the Elite Eight three times in the last five years.
- Only GU and Kansas have made three Elite Eights in the past five years. Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky have the opportunity to tie that feat with a win Friday.
 
MAGICAL NIGHT IN ANAHEIM:
- In Gonzaga's Sweet 16 win over Florida State, Brandon Clarke broke the West Coast Conference record for most blocks in a single season. He needed four coming into the game and finished with five. His 115 blocks this season eclipsed San Francisco's Hondre Brewer's 114 in 1999.
- Clarke also became the first player with 15+ points and 5+ blocks in consecutive NCAA Tournament games since 2013.
- Josh Perkins broke the program record for most assists in a single season during the win as well. The senior passed Matt Santangelo's previous mark of 225 in 1999-2000. Perkins dished out five assists in the win and now has 228 this season.
 
WELCOME TO THE CLUB:
- Zach Norvell Jr. joined the 1,000-point club in the win over Florida State.
- The redshirt sophomore now has 1,013 points in his career.
- He is the fourth Zag on the roster to have 1,000 points in a career, joining Brandon Clarke, Rui Hachimura and Josh Perkins.
