Zags pick up wins over Sacramento State and Miami

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team completed the first day of the Lake Natoma Invite in Gold River, Calif. The Bulldogs collected wins in both the morning and afternoon sessions against host Sacramento State and Miami.

"This week has been a tough time for our team, and I'm so proud of their resilience and camaraderie," head women's rowing coach Marisa Wortman said. "They raced hard and are looking forward to capping off the weekend with a solid performance tomorrow morning."

The Zags varsity four opened the day with a second-place finish, besting Sacramento State by nearly 13 seconds. Gonzaga's varsity eight also collected a second-place finish in the morning session, edging the Hornets once more with a time of 6:43.32.

In the afternoon session, the Bulldogs collected a second-place finish with a time of 6:55.9 just ahead of Miami's time of 6:58.9. The Zags' varsity eight also bested the Hurricanes with a time of 6:39.1, the top time posted by the varsity eight this spring.

The Bulldogs continue the Lake Natoma Invitational Sunday, April 14, beginning with the varsity four at 9:10 a.m.
