Leaderboard
SPOKANE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's golf put together a superb first round and sits in first place as a team by six shots at the West Coast Conference Championships, held in Spokane, Wash.
Playing the Par-71 Manito Golf & Country Club, Gonzaga is +8 overall with a first round total of 292. The Zags were led by freshman Quynn Duong's even-par 71, which sits at the top of the leaderboard individually. Pepperdine is second overall with a +14 (298), while BYU is in third at +16 (300) and eight shots behind GU.
"We are glad to get the first round under our belts, it was a total team effort today," head coach Brad Rickel said. "We just need to keep our heads down and continue to stay with our plan."
Duong's round wasn't flashy, but with 16 pars, she made her way around the course extremely efficiently. She posted a bogey on the par-4 second hole, but after 12 straight pars, she birdied the par-4 15th.
GU freshman Federica Torre and junior Jessica Mangrobang each shot two-over 73s that were nearly identical. Each had two birdies and four bogeys in the round. Torre's birdies both came on Par-5s, while Mangrobang had one birdie on a par-3 and one on a par-5. They now sit in a tie for second with two other players, two shots off the lead.
Sophomore Francesca Santoni rounded out the top four scoring cards for GU with a four-over 75 that featured three birdies. Nina Novilla is also in the mix for Gonzaga, posting a first-round 76 (+5).
Gonzaga will be back on the course at Manito G&CC on Thursday morning with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Check GoZags.com or Golfstat.com for links to live scoring.
