GU freshman had five Top-10s in nine total events
SAN BRUNO, Calif. — Gonzaga women's golfer Quynn Duong was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and All-WCC, league officials announced Monday afternoon.
Duong, from San Jose, Calif., had a standout year, placing in the Top 10 in a team-best five of her nine events throughout the 2018-19 season. Her four finishes in the Top 5 also included three runner-ups, and her 72.85 scoring average set a new Gonzaga single-season record, nearly a half-stroke better than the previous record.
Most recently, Duong placed sixth at the WCC Championships with a total score of eight-over for three rounds. She placed second individually at the Red Rocks Invitational in March (-4), the FIU Pat Bradley Invitational in October (-6) and the Battle at Old Works in September (+7).
Duong is the third Zag to earn the league's Freshman of the Year award, including Raychelle Santos in 2013 and Bianca Pagdanganan in 2016. And, as a member of the All-WCC Team, Duong made it 13 straight years that a Zag was honored as one of the league's best, dating back to 2007.
Gonzaga concluded its spring season of competition with the league tournament this past weekend.
