Second Zag ever to receive honor from CoSIDA
SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga's Jordan McPhee was named to the women's Track and Field and Cross Country Academic All-American Third Team in by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
McPhee has excelled in the classroom. She is completing her Masters of Business Administration, and boasts a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Normandy Park, Wash., native is only the second Zag to be named Academic All-American by CoSIDA. Jessica Mildes was named third team Academic All-American in 2016, before receiving first team honors in 2017.
Among the 90 student-athletes selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Cross Country/Track & Field teams, 20 men and 33 women carry a 4.0 grade-point average or higher, including all 15 women on the first team. The 15 members of the men's cross country/track & field team carry an average GPA of 3.98, while the women's team carry a 4.04 GPA.
"This is really an incredible accomplishment for Jordan, but not a surprising one," GU Head Coach Jake Stewart said. "After playing four years of college basketball and coming to Gonzaga to compete in a year of track and cross country, while being a graduate student is difficult enough. But, knowing Jordan's character and work ethic there was no doubt she'd perform at the highest level in both areas. She was a great teammate, we were very lucky to have her for one year, and are glad she can walk away from her time at Gonzaga with so much to show for it."
McPhee graduates from the program ranked third in GU history in the indoor 800 meters (2:18.73) and fifth in the indoor mile (5:06.82). During the outdoor season, she ran the third-fastest 1,500-meter time in program history, 4:35.61, at the OSU High Performance Meet on April 27.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
