SPOKANE, Wash. – Former Gonzaga men's basketball standout
Brandon Clarke was named the 2019 NBA Summer League Most Valuable Player. Clarke led the Memphis Grizzlies to the league's tournament title Monday.
Clarke was named the Championship Game MVP after scoring 15 points, grabbing a game-high 16 boards and blocking three shots. He hit a game-winning shot in the semifinals to help Memphis reach the title game against Minnesota.
In six games, Clarke averaged 14.7 points, made 55 percent of his field-goal attempts, including five-of-nine from three-point range, and averaged 9.8 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 2.0 assists. The Grizzlies won five of their six games in Las Vegas.
Rui Hachimura was named All-Summer League Second Team. He made 50 percent of his shots from the field, while averaging 19.3 points and seven rebounds per game for the Washington Wizards. He played in three of the Wizards' five games.
Zach Norvell Jr., who signed a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, played four of the five games in Las Vegas for L.A. He averaged 12 points per outing, scoring 20 points against the New York Knicks, and 15 points with five assists versus the Chicago Bulls. Prior to the five games in Las Vegas, Norvell led the Lakers averaging 14 points in three games at the California Classic in Sacramento. He scored 20 points against the Golden State Warriors and dished out eight assists with 11 points versus the Sacramento Kings.
Josh Perkins appeared in four games for the Charlotte Hornets, starting against the Chinese national team. He averaged 20.8 minutes per game, scoring seven points per outing. He was second on the team dishing out three assists per game. The Park Hill, Colo., native made four three-pointers and finished with 14 points versus the San Antonio Spurs.
Johnathan Williams averaged 8.4 points and six rebounds per game for the Houston Rockets. He averaged 21.2 minutes, playing in all five games for Houston. The Memphis, Tenn., native made 55 percent of his shots from the field.
