SPOKANE, Wash. – A select number of Gonzaga women's and men's track student-athletes will run at the UW Invitational inside the Dempsey Center Friday and Saturday.
The UW Invitational will once again assemble excellent fields of collegiate talent plus many of the nation's elite professionals, with several U.S. Olympians scheduled to compete this weekend. UCLA, BYU, Utah State, Nebraska, Iowa State, Arizona, Santa Clara, Portland, Washington State, Washington, Southern Utah, Idaho, Utah, Iowa, Boise State among others and Gonzaga are just some of the schools that will be present.
Four current indoor Gonzaga records were set at the meet, along with several other Top-10 marks. Last season at the meet,
Jake Perrin broke the program's indoor 5,000-meter record. Perrin's 14:15.36 finish smashed the previous record of 14:23.56 set in the Dempsey in the 2015 Husky Classic by Colin O'Neil. The quartet of
Kyle Thompson,
Jonah Sandoval,
Sammy Truax and
Graham Wendle set a new program distance medley relay record.
Peter Hogan placed fourth in his 5,000-meter heat with a time of 14:27.56. His finish ranks third on the GU all-time list.
Yacine Guermali's 8:06.06 3,000-meter finish ranks third in program history. In the first heat of the 3,000 meters,
Ben Hogan crossed the line with a personal record of 8:18.38. His seven-second PR is the new sixth-best mark in program history.
Gonzaga opened the season in the Dempsey Center at the UW Preview on Jan. 18.
Aimee Piercy ran the fourth-fastest indoor 3,000-meter time in women's program's history at 9:47.18. In the women's mile,
Ally Legard was 24th at 5:03.46, while
Claire Gillett was right behind at 5:06.86 in 25th. Legard climbed from eighth to sixth all-time at GU. Gillett's time ranks seventh in program history.
Alicia Anderson ran the ninth-fastest indoor mile in program history at 5:08.05.
