
Stocker Places Third at Washington Amateur Championship

Several Zags have impressive showings last week
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Gonzaga's Zach Stocker finished in third place at the 94th Washington Men's Amateur Championship, held last week at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
Stocker opened the tournament with a 70 (-2) on Aug. 11, before finishing even-par (72) in the second round. The sophomore carded a 67 (-5) in the final round Thursday. His third round featured three birdies and 12 pars, along with eagles on the fourth and 13th holes. Stocker eagled the Par-5 fourth hole in the second and third rounds.
Stocker's big final round shot him up the leaderboard and had him in a three-way tie for the lead after the 15th hole. Oregon State's Sean Kato took medalist honors at nine-under (207), Brian Humphreys of Boise State was second at eight-under (208), and Stocker had a three-day 54-hole total of 209 (-7).
Andrew Reinhardt, Holden Backes and Matthew Ruel all made the cut as well for the Zags. Reinhardt tied for 35th at eight-over (224), Backes tied for 42nd at 10-over (226), and Ruel was 14-over (230) in 58th.
Also last week, incoming freshman Jace Minni tied for 48th in his first MacKenzie Tour event. As an amateur, he was 11-over (224) at the Canada Life Series at Bear Mountain: Mountain Course in Langford, B.C.
