SPOKANE, Wash. – Director of Gonzaga Cross country and Track and Field
Pat Tyson announced the signing of Carpenter Mukai Monday.
"I am really excited Carpenter has decided to be a student-athlete at Gonzaga," Tyson said. "Carp hails from the same high school as Zag runner
Cullen McEachern. He will develop in our program and be a major contributor. Carp, like new recruits Bryce Cerkowniak and Ansel Tucker, make great additions to our team culture of excellence. He will win in the classroom, in the community, on the trail and on the track!"
Carpenter Mukai

Mukai will join the Zags as a freshman in 2021-22, after a standout high school career in Mukilteo, Wash. He has a personal best of 15:28.0 in the 5,000 meters at the 2020 WESCO/North Sound XC Championships. "I chose to continue my education at Gonzaga because I want to be a part of the high standard of excellence that Gonzaga provides, both through academics and athletics," Mukai said. "My hope is to major in either Business or Education. I am also super excited to run for Coach Tyson; he is second to none. Coach Tyson has created an amazing team culture that I can't wait to be part of and will only make me better. Spokane is a great city, and I can't wait to be a Gonzaga Bulldog. Go Zags!"
