
Kim Qualifies for U.S. Amateur Championship

Zag sophomore ties for fourth at qualifying event
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — Gonzaga women's golfer Cassie Kim qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after tying for fourth at the U.S. Women's Amateur qualifying on the par-73 Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
Kim finished at one-over (74), finishing in the top five of the event, qualifying for the 121st U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y., Aug. 2-8.
Kim, a Zag sophomore, had three bogeys and two birdies on the day. In 2019, Kim was co-champion for the individual title in the Girls' Junior America's Cup, helping Team Washington win its first gold medal in the cup's history.
Makensie Toole of Australia shot a 2-under 71 to earn medalist honors over the 50-player field. Claiming the other three available spots were Brooke Seay of San Diego, Calif. and Ellie Slama of Salem, Ore., who both shot even-par 73; and Darcy Habgood of Australia, who also shot 1-over 74.
Washington Golf (WA Golf) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
