Duong, Kim and Wolfe on Preseason All-Conference Team
SAN MATEO, Calif. — The Gonzaga women's golf team were picked to defend their league title, being selected No. 1 in the West Coast Conference Preseason Poll Thursday. Zag golfers Quynn Duong, Cassie Kim and Mary Scott Wolfe were named to the WCC Preseason Team.
The coaches' poll and preseason All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's five head coaches. Coaches cannot vote for their own teams and student-athletes.
The Bulldogs were tied with Pepperdine as preseason favorites, both receiving 13 points and two first-place votes. Last season, GU took the team title at the West Coast Conference Championships for the first time in program history.
The trio of Kim, Duong and Wolfe were all tabbed First Team All-WCC last season. Kim tied for second at the WCC Championships, while Duong was fourth and Wolfe placed 10th.
Duong led the team with a 73.35 season average in the spring. She placed in the Top-10 in five of the six tournaments in the spring, with four Top-5 finishes. The junior carded the team's season-low round of 67 (-5) in the third round of the Red Rocks Invitational.
Wolfe and Kim both had a pair of Top-10 finishes last season. Wolfe's season average was 74.86, while Kim's was 75.06. Wolfe had a low round of 68, and Kim's low round was 69.
BYU was picked third in the coaches' preseason poll, receiving 12 points and one first-place vote. San Francisco (8) and Santa Clara (4) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Gonzaga's conference title came after Pepperdine won the 2019 WCC Championships, while BYU had won the previous three.
