Women's Cross Country places two on Preseason All-WCC

GU picked to finish fourth in conference
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Two Gonzaga women's cross country runners were named to the West Coast Conference Preseason list, the league announced Wednesday, with the Bulldogs picked to finish fourth in the conference.
Lauren Haas and Kristen Garcia were the two Zags in the women's preseason list, which also features six BYU runners and two from San Francisco. The two join a record three preseason selections on the men's side for a program five Zags on preseason All-League lists. Garcia became the first female Zag runner since 2015 to qualify for nationals as an individual after finishing 12th at the WCC Championships, and Haas finished 18th to go with an impressive 36:15.60 10k on the track at the end of the spring that ranks No. 6 on the program's all-time list.
The Zag women's squad was also ranked ninth in the West Region by the USTCCA earlier this week, a program record. The Bulldogs return seven of their top ten from the spring and are set to compete against high-profile national rivals in the Roy Griak Invitational and Nuttycombe Invitational this fall.
Both GU squads kick off the fall season on Friday at the Clash of the Inland Northwest in Cheney, Wash., a competition both won in its most recent iteration in 2019. A segment of the GU women's team will also be competing Saturday in the USF Invitational in San Francisco, Calif.
