MADISON, Wis. — Gonzaga women's cross country placed 36th at a loaded Nuttycombe Invitational that featured 24 of the nation's Top 30 teams on Friday morning, led by a 121st-place individual finish by Kristen Garcia.
Led by first- and second-place individual finishes, No. 1 North Carolina State took first in the team standings, winning a tiebreaker with No. 2 New Mexico. Of the 24 ranked teams competing in Madison on Friday, eight were in the Top 10, plus nine teams from No. 11 to No. 20 and seven more from No. 21 to No. 30.
Garcia's 21:01.5 time was ahead of Alicia Anderson, who picked off 26 runners in the final 2,000 meters to finish 168th (21:19.4). Caramia Mestler (211th, 21:45.9), Makenna Edwards (253rd, 22:36.6), Kate Donaldson (261st, 23:04.6), and Brittney Hansen (262nd, 23:13.2) comprised the rest of GU's point scorers.
