
Women's Rowing Closes Fall Season at Head of the Lake

The Zags will pick up competition again in the spring
LAKE WASHINGTON, Wash. – The Gonzaga women's rowing team closed out the fall season with a solid showing at the Head of the Lake.
In the Champ Women's 8+ race, the Zags had two boats compete. The 1V8 boat finished second with a time of 18:11.208, right behind the University of Washington at 17:24.294. The 2V8 finished fourth with a time of 18:48.391 in the same race. A total of 10 boats competed in the race including Jacksonville University, Portland, Seattle Pacific, Seattle University, Puget Sound and Oregon.
The Zags also competed in the Women's Collegiate JV8+ and had two boats race. The 'A' boat took second with a time of 19:03.673. They were just three seconds behind first place British Columbia, who finished in 19:00.426. The 'B' boat placed fifth with a time of 20:27.975, ahead of WCC's Portland.
In the 3V8 race, the Bulldogs placed third out of five boats with a finishing time of 23:18.860. UW took first with a time of 20:41.399. Other teams in the same heat included Victoria, Seattle Pacific, and Seattle.
"I am really proud of how our team handled the challenging wet and cold conditions," head coach Andrew Derrick said. "We didn't just survive the weather but rather executed some good racing and all five 8+s showed the progress we have made this fall."
