Nembhard Declares for NBA Draft

Gonzaga senior guard foregoing last season of eligibility

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga senior Andrew Nembhard has declared for the 2022 NBA Draft, foregoing his final season of collegiate eligibility.

"Coming to Gonzaga was truly one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I am so grateful for this place," Nembhard said. "I am thankful and blessed to be a part of teams with so much success and accomplishments, but nothing compares to all the relationships I have made over these last two years that will last me a lifetime.

"With that being said, I have decided to enter my name into the 2022 NBA Draft and fulfill my dream of playing in the league.

"I'd like to give a special thanks to Coach Few, the rest of the staff, my teammates, my family, everybody at Gonzaga who has helped me get to this point and will continue to do so in the future, and last but no least Zag Nation!"

After transferring to GU from Florida, Nembhard has been vital to the backcourt success the Zags have had over the last two seasons. The Bulldogs went 59-5 in his appearances in a Gonzaga uniform. He finished his collegiate career with 1,308 points, 691 assists and 162 steals. He topped the West Coast Conference in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio. The Aurora, Ont., native, was seventh in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.97) and 14th in assists per game (5.8).

Nembhard was a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is presented annually to the country's top point guard. This past season, he was named First Team All-Conference, All-District, and to the WCC All-Tournament Team. Nembhard was also named the Empire Classic Most Outstanding Player, the Colangelo Classic Player of the Game, and the Most Outstanding Player at the 2022 WCC Tournament.

During Nembhard's time at Gonzaga, the Zags advanced to the national championship after a 31-0 start to the 2020-21 season. This past season, the Bulldogs were No. 1 in the Associated Press poll for nine weeks and the overall number one seed in the NCAA Tournament. GU ended the season in the program's seventh straight Sweet 16 and a 28-4 record. Nembhard helped guide the Bulldogs to their ninth and 10th straight WCC regular season titles and second and third conference tournament titles. While at Gonzaga, Nembhard and the Zags went 22-1 against WCC competition.
