Duong Places Fifth at WCC Championships

Duong finishes eight-over in the annual event
HENDERSON, Nev. – The Gonzaga women's golf team finished the final round of the West Coast Conference Championships at Reflection Bay Golf Club on Saturday. BYU, Gonzaga, Pepperdine, San Francisco and Santa Clara competed in the three-day event.
Quynn Duong led the Zags the whole way, finishing in fifth place at eight-over (224). Entering the final round, Duong was in fifth place, tallying scores of 79 (+7) and 71 (-1) in the first two rounds. A score of two-over (74) in Round 3 kept her in fifth, finishing with 34 pars and eight birdies.
Cassie Kim continued to climb the leaderboard on Saturday, turning in her weekend-best score of one-over (73). After rising four spots in Round 2, Kim made a jump of three spots in Round 3, finishing in a tie for 16th place at 18-over (234). The Yakima native made 33 pars and three birdies for the tournament.
Chaewon Baek rose three spots on the individual leaderboard in the final round after shooting six-over (78) to finish in 20th place at 24-over (240). She combined for 29 pars and two birdies throughout event.
Ivanna Montemayor, Alyssa Nguyen, and Kaysa Panke all took turns in two rounds each in the tournament. Montemayor competed in Rounds 1 and 2, posting scores of 83 (+11) and 84 (+12). Nguyen competed in Rounds 2 and 3, shooting 83 (+11) and 81 (+9). Panke competed in Rounds 1 and 3 and shot 88 (+16) and 77 (+5).
The Bulldogs finished fifth, combining to shoot 77-over (941) after posting scores of 324 (+36), 315 (+27) and 302 (+14) for the tournament. GU golfers scattered 143 pars and 19 birdies, including their weekend best 54 pars and 8 birdies on Saturday.
Pepperdine's Lauren Gomez led for the entire tournament to win the individual title at three-under (213). BYU's Annick Haczkiewicz finished three strokes behind, shooting even par (216). Pepperdine took home the team title as well, combining to shoot 21-over (885) and winning by 18 strokes. It is the Waves' 19th team title in the 25 years of the tournament.
