Gonzaga to Host 2027 NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships

It will take place at the Flora Park Cross Country Complex currently under construction in the Spokane Valley

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – Gonzaga cross country, along with the Spokane Sports Commission, was selected to host the NCAA Division-I West Regional Cross Country Championships in 2027, the NCAA announced Wednesday morning along with over 240 other host site selections.

"This is a big deal for us and for Spokane," Gonzaga Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Pat Tyson said. "The new cross country complex currently under development will be a wonderful venue for all competitors. We are very excited to welcome some of the best teams and athletes from up and down the West Coast in 2027."

The 2027 West Regional Meet will take place at the Flora Park Cross Country Complex, which is currently under construction in the Spokane Valley and aims to open in the Fall of 2025. The 60-acre complex borders the Spokane River and will allow for a variety of customizable course routes from 0.5 miles to 10 kilometers when complete, including 6K and 10K championship-caliber routes for the 2027 Regionals.

"This is a great opportunity to bring the best NCAA cross country athletes on the West Coast to Spokane to race on what will be one of the best cross country specific courses in the country when it opens," Gonzaga Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Head Coach Jake Stewart said. "We're committed to sustaining the momentum that our program here at Gonzaga has right now, and this will be a big part of that. I have no doubt that it'll be a great event."

The NCAA West Regionals will make their way to Eastern Washington for just the third time since 2011 and their first-ever stop in Spokane. Washington State will host this year's West Regional at the Colfax Golf Course, marking their second hosting bid since 2019. Among other hosting sites for the meet, Sacramento State, Washington, and Stanford have consistently rotated hosting privileges in that near 15-year stretch.

"Spokane is a great running community. Having a chance to bring this event to our city, the support behind it will be immense," Stewart said. "We're looking forward to November 2027."
