DANA POINT, Calif. – Gonzaga men's golf started their spring season with a fourth-place finish at the Vanharte Orange County Collegiate hosted by UC Irvine at the Monarch Beach Golf Links.
The Bulldogs were 11-over (851) in the tournament, which ranks as the fifth-lowest 54-hole team total in program history. GU's final round total of 274 (-6) matched the program's lowest round ever.
The Zags were second on the course's Par-3 holes at +2 (3.03) and Par-5 holes at -14 (4.69). Gonzaga combined for three eagles in the event.
Ethan Flynn and
Guillermo Polo Bodart led the Bulldogs, both tying for 15
th at one-over (211). Flynn carded a program-record 64 (-6) in the final round, which also matched the lowest round in the tournament. His third round 64 featured seven birdies and 10 pars. The sophomore was one-over (71) in Round 1 and six-over (76) in Round 2.
Bodart made two eagles in the tournament, both on the course's Par-5 12
th hole in the second and third rounds. He climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard after an even-par (70) final round. The Argentinian carded a 69 (-1) in the opening round and was two-over (72) in Round 2.
Jace Minni (+5, 215) and Bruce Chang (+6, 216) were 32
nd and 34
th in the tournament.
Daniel Nunez tied for 53
rd at 15-over (225).
Andrew Reinhardt played as an individual and tied for 55
th at 16-over (226).
CSU-Northridge's Felix Schrott took medalist honors at 12-under (198), while Davis McDowell of UC San Diego was second at 10-under (200).
CSU-Fullerton held off Northridge for the team title. Fullerton finished 15-under (825) and CSUN was 12-under (828).
Gonzaga returns to the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz., Feb. 25-27. Live scoring will be available on GoZags.com.
