UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Gonzaga's
Daniel Nunez and Bruce Chang tied for eighth at the 2024 SeattleU Redhawk Invitational Tuesday. The Bulldogs tied for fifth as a team at Chambers Bay Golf Course.
Gonzaga's 168 pars as a team were the most among the 19-team field in the tournament. The Zags were seven-over (859), going six-over in the final round. GU totaled a low-round of 284 (E) in the second round.
The Bulldogs had not completed a tournament since Feb. 27, after their last event the Bandon Dunes Championship was cancelled due to inclement weather March 10-12.
Nunez and Chang were both two-under (211). Chang, playing as an individual, made 14 birdies in the two-day tournament which ranked fourth in the 106-golfer field. He was also two-under (2.83) on the course's Par-3 holes. Nunez made 13 birdies in the event.
Nunez was even-par (71) in the first and third rounds, while carding a 69 (-2) in Round 2. The senior eagled the Par-5 18
th hole in the opening round. His second round featured six birdies.
Chang's final round was bogey-free with six birdies and 12 pars. The freshman carded a 65 (-6) Tuesday, after rounds of 75 (+4) and 71 (E) Monday.
Jace Minni and
Guillermo Polo Bodart both tied for 23
rd at two-over (215). Bodart made 38 pars over the 54 holes, which ranked fourth in the tournament, while Minni made 35 pars. Minni carded a 66 (-5) in the second round, while Bodart started the event with a 70 (-1) in Round 1.
Ethan Flynn (+9, 222) and
Andrew Reinhardt (+10, 223) finished in 60
th and 66
th.
Oregon State's Jackson Lake took medalist honors at 11-under (202), while Johannes Hounsgaard of Idaho was second at 10-under (203).
Oregon State won the team title, placing four golfers in the Top-10. The Beavers were 25-under (827) in the event, while Idaho was second at six-under (846).
Gonzaga travels to the El Macero Classic next at the El Macero Country Club in Davis, Calif. The tournament, hosted by UC-Davis, is April 12-14. The final event before the West Coast Conference Championships will feature live scoring on GoZags.com.
