SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Gonzaga men's rowing team swept Washington State in the dual racing on Silver Lake to win the Fawley Cup.

"The athletes came out and performed very well today," head coach Dan Gehn said. "Anytime you sweep, things are moving in the right direction."

In the first race of the day, both GU and WSU had two boats competing as Gonzaga finished in the top two spots. The A boat finished first with a time of 6:35.34 as the B boat for the Zags finished in 6:45.32. The Bulldogs had a large lead on both Cougars boats as Washington State's A boat finished in 6:54.55 and the B boat placed fourth with 7:03.18.

The 2V8 boat also had a dominating performance as the crew placed first with a time of 6:19.4 in the second race of the day. Gonzaga maintained the lead the whole race as WSU finished in 6:50.3.

In the third race, the Varsity 8 boat competed with WSU's top boat and came out on top with a time of 6:10.78 as the Cougars finished in 6:14.43. 

The final race of the day featured novice boats with Gonzaga claiming first in 6:54.7 as WSU finished in 7:16.3.
