DES MOINES, Iowa – Gonzaga women's track concluded their week at the Drake Relays on Saturday, competing in the distance medley relay.
Willow Collins,
Ellie Armbruster,
Ireland Robertson, and
Rosina Machu finished fifth in 11:21.23, setting a new program record.
Collins led off for the Bulldogs in the 1200m leg, finishing in 3:26.64 before handing the baton to Armbruster, who ran a 55.93 in the 400m leg. Robertson carried the torch for the 800m leg with a 2:10.23, passing it to Machu for the final 1600m leg. The top five teams remained in contention throughout the final four laps, but Utah would pull away late for the win.
Machu finished her leg in 4:48.44 to complete GU's 11:21.23, improving the previous record set last year at the same Drake Relays event.
FRIDAY
Collins placed eighth overall and finished in 4:20.51 in the seeded heat on Friday, just two seconds shy of her season best 4:18.28 from the Stanford Invitational earlier this month. She remains just inside the qualification ranks for the West Preliminaries, likely moving down a spot or two after this weekend.
THURSDAY
On Thursday,
Rosina Machu earned the victory in the seeded section of the 5000m, finishing in 15:54.97. With just over three weeks until the qualification deadline, Machu will sit somewhere in the Top 30 in the West after this weekend's action.
Logan Hofstee and
Jessica Frydenlund made their collegiate 5000m debuts on Thursday, stamping their names in the program Top Ten along the way. Hofstee placed third overall in 16:05.90, entering the program ranks at No. 4 while Frydenlund placed fourth in 16:18.73, entering the ranks at No. 8.
