Women's Tennis Wraps Up ITA Regionals

The Zags Compete at the PAC-12 Fall Qualifier Next
PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Gonzaga women's tennis team completed play at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships on Sunday. The team competed in one consolation doubles match and several singles matches.
In consolation doubles, Kelsey Phillips and Aisulu Zholbolat won their match against Pacific's Indiya McLeod and Leyanne Hirota in a close 7-6(4) final score.Â
In consolation singles, the Zags had a day filled with wins and posted a 6-2 record on Sunday. Starting the day was Emily Robertson against Stanford's Monika Ekstrand. Angelina Hug knocked No. 19 Ekstrand out of the main draw with an incredible win earlier in the weekend. Robertson had to retire from the match early due to injury, leaving Ekstrand with the win, 6-2, 2-1. The only other loss of the day came when Chisato Kanemaki (WSU) defeated Aisulu Zholbolat in a close 3-6, 6-4, [10-8] match.Â
Ella Nielsen had a commanding straight-set victory against Saint Mary's Syndey Wilson, 6-1, 6-1. Also earning straight-set wins were Kelsey Phillips, Madeleine MacNeille and Sia Cariov who played against Sacramento State, UC Davis and Fresno State, respectively. Hug won her match against Stanford opponent Sein Myoung after Myoung withdrew due to injury at a score of 6-3, 3-0. Sveva Zerpelloni also claimed victory in her match against Sacramento State's Jessica Schilz after clinching the win in a [10-6] match tiebreak.
