Gonzaga women's rowing opened competition against Washington State on Friday afternoon, earning wins in both the Third Varsity Eight and Fourth Varsity Eight races on Silver Lake.
The Zags set the tone early in the III Eight, turning in a strong performance to take first place with a time of 6:55.69, finishing ahead of Washington State's 6:59.8. Gonzaga controlled the race from the start and held off a late push from the Cougars to secure the victory.
In an intrasquad exhibition that followed, Gonzaga continued to show depth across its lineup. One boat claimed the win with a time of 7:41.6, followed by second at 7:43.7 and third at 7:46.5. The V8 boat also posted a strong outing, recording the fastest time of the group at 6:49.5.
Gonzaga closed the day with another decisive performance in the IV Eight. The Bulldogs again finished first, clocking a 7:18.6 to defeat Washington State, which crossed in 7:54.51. GU created separation early and maintained a steady rhythm throughout the race to cap the afternoon with a second win over the Cougars.
