SPOKANE, Wash- Gonzaga Men's Track head coach Pat Tyson announced the addition of the newest Zag runner on Monday, with Ronan Gantos joining GU.
Ronan will come to Spokane with a 4:09.71 personal best time in the 1600 meters and a 9:05.90 personal best in the two mile race. As a junior on the oval, Ronan placed 2nd in both the 1500 and 3000 meters in the Oregon 3A state championships. This past fall he placed 2nd at the Nike Team Regional XC open championship, already setting a fast standard for his times in Spokane when finished the 5k in 15:08.8 at the nearby Polo Grounds.
Coach Tyson said that Gantos is "a highly competitive athlete who wants to help Gonzaga win in the Pacific-12 Conference and be in the hunt to place very high at Nationals. Add in the fact he is an amazing student and great team guy, and it's clear that the Zags got a very good one in Ronan Gantos"
Gantos, who is planning to major in Computer Science, says that he chose to come to Gonzaga because he "believes that the coaches and training will support me in improving as an athlete, and the strong academics and computer science program will help me to grow as a learner." Ronan also highlighted that he "appreciates the close-knit community both on the team and throughout the school, and I'm excited to be part of it!" Gantos will finish out his high school senior spring in his hometown of Portland before joining GU next semester.Â
