Zach Norvell Jr. enters his fourth season as an assistant coach on Mark Few’s staff in 2026-27 after joining the Gonzaga coaching staff prior to the 2023-24 season. A former standout Gonzaga guard, Norvell has brought his experience as a player, professional and recruiter back to the program, contributing to the Bulldogs’ continued success on the national stage.
During his first three seasons on the coaching staff, Norvell helped Gonzaga compile a 78-21 record, win two West Coast Conference regular-season championships, capture two WCC Tournament titles and earn three NCAA Tournament berths.
In 2025-26, Norvell helped Gonzaga to a 31-4 record, the WCC regular-season and tournament championships and another NCAA Tournament berth. The Bulldogs earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, defeated Kennesaw State in the first round and finished the season ranked No. 18 in the final Associated Press poll.
Norvell returned to Gonzaga after a standout playing career with the Bulldogs in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He scored 1,023 career points and made 174 three-pointers, joining Gonzaga’s 1,000-point club during the 2018-19 season. The Chicago native was named the 2018 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year.
During his redshirt sophomore season in 2018-19, Norvell started 36 of Gonzaga’s 37 games, averaging 14.9 points and 3.14 assists per game. He led the WCC with 97 made three-pointers, the third-highest single-season total in Gonzaga history at the time, and earned First Team All-WCC and Second Team All-District honors from the NABC.
Norvell helped Gonzaga to a 65-9 overall record and a 33-1 WCC record during his two seasons on the court. The Bulldogs won back-to-back WCC regular-season championships, advanced to the 2018 NCAA Sweet 16 and 2019 NCAA Elite Eight, and captured the 2018 WCC Tournament championship. Norvell redshirted during Gonzaga’s historic 2017 run to the program’s first Final Four and NCAA championship game.
Following his Gonzaga playing career, Norvell played professionally in the NBA and NBA G League. He made five NBA appearances, three with the Golden State Warriors and two with the Los Angeles Lakers. During the 2019-20 G League season with the South Bay Lakers, he averaged 15.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 29 appearances, including 17 starts.
Norvell also played for the Santa Cruz Warriors, scoring a career-high 34 points in his G League debut while shooting 7-for-12 from three-point range and adding five rebounds and four assists. In seven games with Santa Cruz, he averaged 12.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists while playing 30.7 minutes per game.
Norvell’s transition from Gonzaga student-athlete to professional player and back to the Bulldogs’ coaching staff provides him with firsthand experience in the development of players at the collegiate and professional levels. His familiarity with Gonzaga’s program and culture has made him a valuable member of Few’s staff as the Bulldogs continue their transition into the Pac-12 era.
