Ross Button joined the Gonzaga men's golf staff in August of 2018 and enters his ninth season with the Bulldogs in 2026-27.
During Button's tenure, Gonzaga has continued to establish itself as one of the West Coast Conference's consistent programs while producing some of the strongest scoring and academic results in program history. In 2025-26, the Bulldogs posted a 291.66 team scoring average, ranking third in program history. Guillermo Polo Bodart finished his Gonzaga career with a program-best 73.04 career scoring average over 112 rounds, while Ethan Flynn finished fourth in program history at 73.81. Freshman Michael Vienneau posted a 72.96 season scoring average, which ranks seventh all-time at Gonzaga.
The 2025-26 season also featured several strong performances from Gonzaga's young players. Vienneau opened his collegiate career with a fifth-place finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, shooting seven-under 209, while freshman Jayden Lizama posted a ninth-best all-time 54-hole tournament score of 204 at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic. Lizama's 66 in the final round of that tournament matched the eighth-lowest round in Gonzaga history. Gonzaga's 842 team total at Ka'anapali was the second-lowest 54-hole team score in program history.
Gonzaga's success under Button has extended to the classroom. During his tenure, the Bulldogs have continued to earn Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team recognition, including President's Special Recognition for maintaining a team GPA of 3.5 or better. The program earned President's Special Recognition in five consecutive seasons from 2020 through 2024 and eight times overall. In 2025-26, three Bulldogs—Polo Bodart, Flynn and Daniel Kim—were named GCAA All-American Scholars, while Polo Bodart earned WCC All-Academic Team honors.
Button has also been involved in Gonzaga's continued recruiting and development efforts, helping the Bulldogs bring in student-athletes with success at the junior and national levels. Gonzaga's 2026-27 recruiting class includes Cooper Paull and Jack Brayman, both nationally ranked junior golfers who have competed successfully in AJGA, state and USGA events.
Before arriving at Gonzaga, Button was an assistant coach for the University of Idaho men's golf program.
Prior to joining the staff at Idaho, Button was the head coach at Moscow High School for three years. Born and raised in Moscow, Button is a 2003 graduate of Moscow High School and went on to play golf collegiately at Lewis-Clark State College. He received a bachelor's degree in Social Science from LCSC.
In addition to skill development, Button brings with him four years of professional caddy experience. His time on the bag provides valuable experience in course management and competition preparation for Gonzaga's student-athletes. At Idaho, Button also assisted with day-to-day operations and organization of practices.
