Women's Basketball Downs EWU 69-64

CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's basketball team improved to 4-4 on the season Tuesday night when they defeated Eastern Washington University 69-64 during a non-conference contest.
Senior forward Jessica Malone hit a team-high 20 points shooting 6 -for-11 from the 3-point territory.
Bernice Stime collected 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Eagles jumped out to a 7 point lead before the Malone put the Zags on the board with 3-pointer at three minutes in.
Freshman Ashley Burke made a fastbreak-layup to pull the Bulldogs within reach and Stime gave the Zags the 8-7 lead with a 3-point effort with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Gonzaga never gave the lead back.
GU led by as many as 17 points in the first half, leaving for the locker room with a 40-25 lead.
Eastern gained ground in the second half pulling within four points 42-46 with seven minutes remaining.
Bulldog freshman Juliann Laney came away with 4 points and a team-high 8 rebounds.
Triana Allen handed over a game-high 5 assists. GU shot 45 percent from the field, 52 percent from three-point territory and 73 percent from the free throw-line.
Kathleeen Nygaard led the Eagles with a game-high 21 points and 13 rebounds. The Eagles finished with 42 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs return to the Kennel Thursday night against Whitworth at 7 p.m.
