Volleyball Grounds Gaels In Five-Game Victory

MORAGA, Calif. - Gonzaga hit .368 in the final game Friday night as the Bulldogs (4-14, 2-3 WCC) won their second straight West Coast Conference match in five games over host Saint Mary's College (4-11, 1-4 WCC). The Bulldogs won the contest 30-28, 24-30, 20-30, 30-26 and 15-11 and will travel to San Diego for Saturday WCC action.
Gonzaga was led on the night by the hot hitting of Christina Davis who turned in a 19 kill performance and .312 attack percentage. The 19-kill performance comes off a career-high 26 kill effort last Saturday night during a five-game win over San Francisco. Natasha Kozen hammed home 15 kills and Abby Cullen added 12 for the Bulldogs. Kozen performance came on a .278 attack clip as the Bulldogs hit .172.
The Gaels finished with a higher attack percentage (.212) and controlled play at the net with a 26-15 block advantage but were unable to shutdown a steady Gonzaga attack in the final two games. GU had hit .205 in the game four win before rolling off the final game effort. Saint Mary's could only muster a .100 attack percent in the final game despite having four players finish in double-figure kills. Lindsey Bogason led SMC with 16 kills while Meg Hauser and Stacey O'Connor each had 13. O'Connor also finished with nine block solos as she leads the WCC in blocking.
Davis and Cullen each had four blocks to lead Gonzaga while Davis had a match-high 19 digs. Missy Perry and Heather Signor chipped in with 15 digs each. Bogason led the Gaels defensively with 16 digs.
