Women's Tennis Edged 4-3 At Montana

MISSOULA, Mont. - The University of Montana women's tennis team edged Gonzaga 4-3 Saturday in a non-conference dual match at the Lindsay Tennis Center.
Montana (2-0) took control by winning four of the six singles matches, led by No. 2 singles winner Lindsey Torgerson.
In the top singles spot, Gonzaga's Jamie Buterbaugh rebounded to beat Montana's Misa Zima 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.Torgerson downed Gonzaga's Kendall Bates 6-3, 6-3.
The Grizzlies won the No. 4 through No. 6 singles slots. Annabelle Janairo stopped Aaryn Volkmann 6-2, 6-3. Kate Kohlschreiber pulled out a 7-5, 6-1 win over Sirrah Williams. Erin Cooney followed with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Tanita Bird.
The Bulldogs' second singles victory came when Katie Rock dropped Montana's Ashild Fjeldheim 6-1, 6-4, in the No. 3 singles match.
Gonzaga won two of the three doubles matches to pick up a point. Rock and Williams combined to beat Cooney and Fjeldheim 8-4. Bird and Volkmann bested Torgerson and Kohlschreiber 8-5. UM's No. 1 doubles team of Zima and Janairo topped Buterbaugh and Bates 8-5.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday as they open play at the ITA Regional Rolex Qualifier in Stanford, Calif.
