Women's Basketball Rocks Whitworth 85-36

SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior guard Triana Allen sank a career-high 26 points Sunday afternoon as the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (5-4) defeated the Whitworth Pirates (6-2) 85-36 during a non-conference game at the Kennel.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 6-point lead in the first minutes before forward Tiffany Speer put the Pirates on the board at 15:40. Ashley Burke answered with three-consecutive layups to give GU a 12-2 lead at 14:30.

A mid-half point-run helped Gonzaga establish a large lead as Shannon Mathews sparked a 16-6 run with a three-point shot at 12:16. The Bulldogs led by as many as 26-first half points as they entered halftime with a commanding 40-15 lead.

Gonzaga continued to dominate in the second half pulling away by as many as 51 points to remain undefeated at home this season. The Bulldogs posted their fourth-consecutive win, their best start at home since the 1993-94 season.

Allen finished with a career-high 26 points, going 11-for-13 from the field and 4-for-6 from three-point territory as Burke added 17 points for the Bulldogs. Raeanna Jewell pulled down a game-high seven rebounds as Delphine LeCoultre finished with six boards. The Bulldogs shot 67.3 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 33.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Cross-town rival Whitworth entered Sunday's contest ranked No. 21 in Division III play. Chrissy Oneal led the Pirates with 11 points while both Tiffany Speer and Micki Desmarais scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Whitworth finished shooting 21.4 percent from the field.

The Bulldogs continue their six-match homestand Saturday in as they host the Weber State Wildcats for a 2 p.m. matinee at the Kennel.
