MALIBU, Calif. - The University of Pepperdine Waves (9-5, 1-0) opened West Coast Conference play Friday night with a 78-63 win over the Gonzaga University Bulldogs (9-7, 0-1) at Firestone Fieldhouse.
Senior Triana Allen scored a team-high 21 points to lead the Bulldogs while Ashley Burke and Delphine Lecoultre added 14 and 10 points respectively.
Gonzaga shot 52 percent from the field in the first half but dropped to 30 percent clip in the second half. GU relied on free-throw shots for many second-half points going 10-for-12 from the charity stripe, shooting 81.3 percent from the line. The Bulldogs capped the game shooting 40 percent from the field.
The two teams battled through six ties and nine lead changes. Pepperdine's bench contributed 33 points to Gonzaga's 13.
Senior guard Tamara McDonald paced the Waves with 22 points while Keani Christianson (14), Nicole Funn (11) and Shanell Law (10) each added double-digits.
