Women's Tennis Edges Montana State

SPOKANE, Wash. - Senior Leigh Orne won the deciding singles match for Gonzaga University as the Bulldogs defeated Montana State University, 4-3, on Friday afternoon. This marked the first dual match for the Gonzaga women's tennis program under the helm of head coach Alisha Woodroof.
The Bobcats took control of the match early as they gained the doubles point. Vera Vasileva/Ivette Duran def. Leigh Orne/Sirrah Williams (8-2) and Katy Clark/Remy Clark def. Connie Head/Katie Sanders (8-4) to give Montana State the advantage. The Bulldog tandem of Jamie Buterbaugh/Angela Fry won the only doubles match for Gonzaga over Laurel Brown/Anna Hockett (8-2) to prevent the doubles sweep.
The Bulldogs won three singles matches easily with victories by Buterbaugh, Fry and Sanders. Orne took her opponent K. Clark to a third set before Clark retired. Orne won the deciding match 2-6, 7-6(6), 4-2, ret.
Gonzaga travels to University of Montana tournament this weekend for play on Saturday and Sunday.
