Women's Tennis Defeats Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team defeated regional foe Eastern Washington University as the Zags swept the match 7-0 in Cheney. Gonzaga won all six singles matches in two sets while winning two of three in doubles competition to win that point. No. 1 singles player Jamie Buterbaugh had the easiest time of the six singles players as she swept Jennifer Jolly, 6-0, 6-0. The closest singles match was in No. 6 singles where GU's Katie Sanders defeated Teri Sherill, 7-5, 6-0.
In doubles action No. 1 doubles pair Jamie Buterbaugh and Angela Fry easily won 8-3 over Jennifer Jolly and Marie Carroll. The No. 3 doubles pair of Leigh Orne and Katie Sanders also collected an 8-3 win over EWU. The win was the Bulldogs second team win of the season as they improved to 2-0 for fall competition. Gonzaga will open the 2004 Spring season on Jan. 31 with a match against Utah State University.
