ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team goes back on the road for four-straight matches in Southern California. This weekend, the Bulldogs engage in West Coast Conference play as they travel to Loyola Marymount University on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m., then face No. 13 Pepperdine University on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. Road matches prove trouble for the Zags, as they have never won a WCC match on the road. Next week, Gonzaga will take on San Diego State University and University of San Diego.
WITH A WIN...: With a win over Loyola Marymount University or Pepperdine University, the 2003 Gonzaga University women's soccer team will be set apart as the winningest team in program history with nine wins on the season. Also, they would earn only the third West Coast Conference win by the women's soccer program since they joined the WCC in 1993. With a win over LMU, the Bulldogs will have defeated the Lions for the first time in program history. With a win over No. 13 Pepperdine, Gonzaga will have defeated a ranked team for the first time in program history. With a win over either WCC team, the Bulldogs will have won their first WCC road match ever.
GOING STREAKING: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team has been full of streaks over the 2003 season, including longest win streak in program history and longest home win streak in program history, but there is still one streak that the Bulldogs haven's been able to break: West Coast Conference play. Gonzaga holds a 26-game losing streak against WCC teams, with the most recent victory over University of San Francisco during the 1999 season.
BROKEN RECORDS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team continues to make strides towards breaking team and individual records all throughout the book. The team has tied the 1997 squad with most wins in a season at eight. The Bulldogs also established the longest win streak in program history with five-consecutive wins (9/26-10/10). Junior Annie Hawkins has moved up in the ranks, tied for third with 11 goals on the season, tied for third with 23 points this season, third with 38 career points, and is only the second Gonzaga woman in history with a hat trick under her belt. Junior Walker Loseno also moved up to tied for fourth with five assists on the season. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen moved up with a 1.55 goals against average to claim the singles season record.
LIVE ON THE INTERNET: All Gonzaga University home matches as well as all West Coast Conference road matches will be available via Livestats on the internet at http://www.gozags.com. Some non-conference matches may also be available. Check the Gonzaga web site for all Livestats links.
SCOUTING THE LIONS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer begins its four-game road trip on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. as the Bulldogs travel to Loyola Marymount for a West Coast Conference match. The Lions host Gonzaga after two defeats over the weekend, a 2-0 shut out by University of San Diego and a 4-1 defeat by No. 14 Santa Clara University. The weekend left LMU with a 7-4-3 record, 0-2 in the WCC. The Lions return senior forward Shari Nishikawa, who leads the team with four goals and two assists. Nishikawa has played in all 15 of LMUs games after earning second-team All-WCC honors during the 2002 season. The Lions also look towards goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro to lead the team. Yukihiro has recorded six shutout victories during the 2003 season, along with 55 saves and a 1.02 goals against average.
BULLDOGS VS. THE LIONS: Gonzaga University and Loyola Marymount University look to their 12th meeting in program history. The Lions lead the series 10-0-1 as LMU defeated the Bulldogs with a 1-0 victory during the 2002 season. Gonzaga marked its only tie against the Lions during the 1994 season.
SCOUTING THE #11 WAVES: Pepperdine University plays host to Gonzaga University in a West Coast Conference match after splitting the weekend with a 5-0 defeat by then ranked No. 14 Santa Clara University and a 2-1 victory over University of San Diego. The Waves face the Bulldogs as the defending 2002 WCC Champions, with a 12-3-0 record on the season, 2-1 in WCC play. Pepperdine returns seven from its 2002 starting lineup including senior forward Lacey Ubaldi, who tallies seven goals and six assists in 15 games. Ubaldi earned second team All-WCC honors after appearing in all 22 matches of the 2002 season with eight goals. The Waves also look to freshman forward Jennifer Brewer to lead the offense as Brewer has notched seven goals during the 14 games that she has seen action in this season.
BULLDOGS VS. THE WAVES: The Waves of Pepperdine University hold an 9-0-1 record over Gonzaga University. Last season, the Bulldogs held the Pilots to a 0-0 tie at halftime, but were defeated 4-1 by Portland.
