SATURDAY - NOVEMBER 8 Gonzaga vs. #6 Santa Clara, 1 p.m.
HOME SWEET HOME: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team ends the regular season as they host 6th-ranked Santa Clara University, currently first place in the West Coast Conference. The match will conclude both regular and conference play for the Bulldogs and the Broncos as they face off on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. on Martin Field. Gonzaga remains strong at home with a 5-3 record on its home field.
SARAH HAWKINS RECEIVES HONORS: Junior midfielder Sarah Hawkins received honors all through the week after the Gonzaga University women's soccer team swept through Loyola Marymount University and then-ranked #11 Pepperdine University. Hawkins was first recognized as the West Coast Conference Player of the Week by scoring two goals in the 4-0 defeat over LMU and her assist in the 1-0 shutout over Pepperdine. The Salt Lake City, Utah, native was also named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week with teammate Ashley Haugen and recognized on the Soccer America Team of the Week for her efforts.
BROKEN RECORDS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team continues to make strides towards breaking team and individual records all throughout the book. With last weekends' 1-0 shutout over University of San Diego the Bulldogs have tallied eleven wins on the season, the most of any women's soccer team in Gonzaga history. The Bulldogs also established the longest win streak in program history with five-consecutive wins (9/26-10/10) and are currently on the longest streak of West Coast Conference play with their three wins. Junior Annie Hawkins has moved up in the ranks, tied for first in the record books with 13 goals on the season, holding third place with 29 points this season, second with 44 career points, and is only the second Gonzaga woman in history with a hat trick under her belt. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen moved up with a 1.28 goals against average to claim the singles season record and is approaching her own season shutout record (six) from 2002 as she has five shutouts.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer wraps up its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. as the Bulldogs host No. 6 Santa Clara University on Martin Field. The Broncos travel to Gonzaga after a double overtime defeat over University of Portland, 2-1. The weekend left Santa Clara with a 11-3-5 record, 5-0-1, West Coast Conference. The Broncos look to repeat their succes from the 2002 season as they finished with a loss in the championship game of the College Cup. Santa Clara returns junior forward Leslie Osborne, who leads the team with 10 goals, five assists for 25 points. Osborne has played in 19 of Santa Clara's games after earning first-team All-WCC for two-straight years. The Broncos also look towards freshman goalkeeper Julie Ryder to lead the team. Ryder has recorded six shutout victories during the 2003 season, along with 36 saves and a 0.56 goals against average.
BULLDOGS VS. THE BRONCOS: Gonzaga University and Santa Clara University look to their 11th meeting in program history. The Broncos have defeated the Bulldogs all 10 matches, with a 6-0 win during the 2002 season.
KEEPING TABS: Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Haugen has lived up to her expectations as she has guided the Gonzaga University women's soccer team to three-straight shutouts over West Coast Conference opponents in the past two weeks of play. Haugen was placed on the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for her efforst in the 4-0 victory over Loyola Marymount University and 1-0 shutout of Pepperdine University. Haugen claims the career shuouts record with eleven and has stepped up to the No. 2 slot with only 22 goals allowed this season. The Littleton, Colo., native holds the lowest season goals against average with her 1.28 average and looks to keep that going into the last game of the season.
AGAINST THE ODDS: The Gonzaga University women's soccer team has been full of creating streaks over the 2003 season, including the lastest three-game West Coast Conference play win streak. With a 4-0 shut out over Loyola Marymount University, Gonzaga put to rest its 26-game WCC losing streak and created a new streak to be proud of. With the 1-0 victory over then ranked #11 Pepperdine, the Bulldogs' marked their first victory over a ranked opponent and continued the win streak with a 1-0 shutout over University of San Diego. Gonzaga hadn't won a WCC game since 1999, and now has a three-game shutout win streak to its name.
