SPOKANE, Wash. - The pollsters weren't impressed with Gonzaga University's 96-58 thumping of Washington State University on Sunday night in The Kennel, the Bulldogs falling one notch to 16th in this week's Associated Press Top 25.
Although the Top 10 teams remained the same, the order was juggled from a week ago. No. 1 University of Connecticut, No. 7 University of Oklahoma, No. 9 University of North Carolina and No. 10 Saint Joseph's University all retained their spots from the previous week. UConn received 37 first-place votes to hold less than a 100 point lead over Duke University, which jumped from third to second. The University of Kentucky, ranked No. 2 last week, fell to No. 8 after losing to Louisville University. That propelled the Cardinals from 20th to No. 11.
Gonzaga, which fell from 13th to 15th a week ago after a loss to Stanford, was leap frogged by the University of Pittsburgh. The 12-0 Panthers hold a 5-point lead over the 8-2 Bulldogs.
Gonzaga is back in action Wednesday in the Spokane Arena against Eastern Washington University, then returns to The Kennel on Sunday to face the University of Montana. Both games are sold out.
