Women's Golf Finishes 12th At LUNA Bay Area Classic

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's golf team improved its team score by 24 strokes on Wednesday afternoon but the Bulldogs could not move up the leaderboard as they finished 12th at the 2003 LUNA Bay Area Classic hosted by the University of San Francisco. The two-day event held at Hiddenbrooke Country Club in Vallejo was won by the University of California which finished with a two-day total of 601 to defeat second place University of Washington by 23 strokes. Gonzaga shot a team total of 736 with team scores of 380 and 356.

Carrie DeGree was the top Gonzaga golfer during the event as she finished tied for 46th with back-to-back rounds of 86 and 87. California golfer Sarah Huarte won indvidual honors for the tournament. Gonzaga's four other golfers in the event finished in spots 60 through 67. The Bulldogs return to action on Friday afternoon when they compete in the Inland Collegiate College Challenge in Lewiston, Idaho.
