Men's Tennis Falls To Sacramento State, 7-0

SACRAMENTO - Gonzaga University men's tennis continued its Spring Break trip to the California Bay Area as the Bulldogs faced Sacramento State on Monday afternoon. The host Hornets easily defeated the Bulldogs 7-0 at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. Gonzaga fell to 2-7 on the year including 0-2 on its current road trip.

Sacramento State began the day by winning the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot, sophomores Matthew Jones and Peter Farkas defeated Bryce Cooper and Drew Ernst, 8-3. Junior Nick Sheehan and freshman Anders Albertsen won their No. 2 match over Brendan Cunningham and Shaun Whitney, 8-3. At the three, freshmen Lewis Van Splunteren and Jakub Sliva defeated Reid Arthur and Robert Penney, 8-5.

In singles play, Jones defeated Cooper at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-1. Sheehan won his singles match over Whitney, 6-3, 7-5, at the two. Playing at the three, Albertsen picked up a 6-2, 6-2, win over Arthur. At the No. 4 spot, Van Splunteren won his match over Ernst, 6-3, 6-2. Sliva defeated Penney at the five, 6-2, 6-1. Sophomore Colin Moulton won in his first collegiate start, defeating Jesse Goldsmith, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3), at the No. 6 spot.

Gonzaga returns to action Tuesday afternoon with a match against WCC foe San Francisco.
