UC Riverside Defeats Women's Tennis 5-2

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The University of California Riverside Highlanders defeated the Gonzaga University Bulldogs 5-2 during a non-conference match in Riverside, Calif., Wednesday.
The Highlanders earned the doubles point winning two of the three matches. Michelle Beyronneau and Casey Cross downed Jamie Buterbaugh and Aaryn Volkmann 8-6 in the No. 1 match while Lindsay Litvinoff and Kristina Schuster secured the doubles point defeating Sirrah Williams and Connie Head 8-2.
Kendall Bates and Katie Rock took the No. 2 match for the Bulldogs with a 9-7 victory over Carolyn Mitchell and Miranda Lagac.
In singles action the Highlanders won the first two matches when Beyronneau defeated Buterbaugh 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 slot while Cross downed Bates 6-3, 6-4 in No. 2 action.
Volkmann defeated Mitchell 6-3, 6-4 in No. 3 action to give Gonzaga its first singles point.
Rock forced a third set before Lagac took the match 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth match while Schuster defeated Williams 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth spot.
Leigh Orne gave the Bulldogs a second point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Litvinoff in the sixth singles match.
The Bulldogs continue action on the road Thursday at Loyola Marymount University at 1:30 p.m.
