Kelsey Posedel Leads Women's Golf To Fourth Place Finish

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's golf team could not repeat the magic of its first round total of 315 but did play well enough in the second round to earn a fourth place finish at the Santa Clara University Colby Invitational at Rancho Canada East/West Golf Course in Carmel Valley, California. Gonzaga finished with a second day total of 333 and a team score of 648, six strokes behind third place Santa Clara and eight strokes behind Sacramento State in second. Eastern Washington claimed the team title with a score of 628.

Gonzaga had been alone in third following day one action but could not get the shots to fall on the second day as Kelsey Posedel dropped to a tie for sixth after being the opening round leader with a round of 72. Posedel fired an 87 on the second 18 holes to tie Kelly Gardner and Andrea Polk of Eastern Washington for sixth. Meggie Fagundes (Santa Clara), also a co-leader after day one, won the individual title after a round of 78 on Tuesday.

Senior Kate Siddell led the Bulldogs during the second day as she was the only Gonzaga player to shoot in the 70's with a round of 79. That moved her into a tie for 12th after opening with a round of 82 on Monday. Carrie DeGree and Erin Picht tied for 21st while Cathy Knutson finished 54th to round out the Gonzaga golfers.

The golfers played the West Course on Tuesday after opening on the East Course on Monday.
